How to Teach your Child the Different Body Parts.

Although my babes know their body parts, there is always room for improvement. Also, I am about to go through the teaching process again with my youngest, so any tools to aid the lessons would be a welcome addition.

'I Can Teach My Child!', have a fabulous little tune to sing with your toddler. If you are not keen on singing, you could point out your body part and then theirs - "my nose", "your nose".

Another cute tune has been posted by 'Playing With Words 365'.

On the singing theme, nursery rhymes are always fun to act out with your tots:
  • Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes
  • Hokey Pokey
  • If you're happy and you know it
  • Ten Little Fingers
  • Chubby Cheeks
  • One Finger, One Thumb Keep Moving
  • The Finger Song
  • Here we go Round the Mulberry Bush.
Trace around your child onto a large piece of paper. Together, throw bean bags and name the body part it lands on.

As you dress your child, name the body parts as each piece of clothing covers it - for example, "pop your left leg in".

Split pin bodies are a fun way to introduce the different parts. 'Twinkl' provide cute templates but you do have to sign up to download these activities . Skeletons are more readily available: 'Unicorn Hat Party', 'Spoonful', 'Jesus Without Language'and 'DZ Doodles'.

Worksheets are enjoyed by all ages, some great ones can be downloaded from: 'Danielle's Place', 'ISL Collective', 'Communication 4 All' and '4 Shared'.

'Blue Preschool' have posted some fabulous ideas for tots to have fun whilst learning.

Beside the above, books, puzzles, charts, dolls and mirrors can all be used to teach.

For older children, there are some fabulous activities on 'Lawteedah's' website.
